The Register is our list of checked companies: see which specific companies we checked and what we could verify. Real companies, checked against our published standard (the set of checkable points every company is measured against). Findings are reported in aggregate — we never publish a named company's failing verdict here. See why below.
This page shows the companies named on the public list (1 listed) plus aggregate findings on the rest. "Records checked" means every company whose public records we have started checking against our standard, even where some points could not be confirmed. "Full review completed" means every applicable point was checked and ended as pass, fail or not applicable, with none left unknown and none on hold. "Listed" means the company is named below; a listed company's Record shows the result of each point, and a point marked unknown has not been confirmed. It is not a lookup of any company you type in. A card marked HOLD has one specific point still being re-verified, and a card marked Review incomplete has at least one applicable point not yet resolved; each shows exactly which points are confirmed and which are open, and none is rounded up to a pass. "Last reviewed" above marks when this page's aggregate numbers and public list were last confirmed accurate. Every individual entry also carries its own assessment date and a scheduled re-check — typically within six months, sometimes twelve depending on category risk — whether or not anything changed. We'll keep checking more companies and re-checking these on schedule.
Grading is commercially blind. No payment — or the possibility of one — has ever influenced a pass/fail decision on this page; every finding above is reached the same way, regardless of who's being checked. That's easy to state exactly today: as the stat row shows, zero companies here have any paid placement or commercial relationship with this site. If that ever changes, any commercial link would attach only after a company already passed on the merits, would be disclosed plainly on the page it appears on, and would never be a factor in the verdict itself. Notice, 3 October 2026. On 3 October 2026, six companies were temporarily removed from the public list while review of every applicable point is completed. Removal is not a finding of wrongdoing and is not a fail. The evidence gathered so far is preserved, and a company is re-listed only after a complete review supports it. If you think any entry here is wrong or out of date, report it — we review every dispute within 5 business days.
Update, 4 October 2026. The one company still named on the list is shown as "Review incomplete": five of its six applicable points are confirmed and one, its current variable APR, is still open. Its listing is unchanged. We re-checked the wording on its Record page against what was actually read and added a dated review note that says which findings drew on card-review sources and which on Capital One's own pages.

A card says "All N applicable points verified" only when every applicable point was resolved; otherwise it says "Review incomplete" (or HOLD, where one point is under active re-verification) and lists what is still open. We link directly to each company's own site — plain outbound links, no tracking beyond an anonymous per-brand click count (see our editorial policy for what that means and what would change if it ever does). This list isn't ranked by preference; it's alphabetical within category.

This category is checked against a separate, adapted standard (see the credit-builder addendum) — these are legitimate financial products, not a scam-risk category, so a source-checked point here means the terms are real and disclosed as advertised, not that a fraud risk was ruled out.

Hold: The card's current variable purchase APR has not yet been confirmed against Capital One's own rate disclosure since the U.S. Prime Rate moved from 6.75% to 7.00% on 17 September 2026. The disclosure practice itself (a stated variable rate) is not in question; the exact current figure is.
Capital One states it periodically and automatically reviews secured accounts for upgrade eligibility to an unsecured card (commonly discussed across sources as around 6 months of on-time payments and low utilization, though Capital One does not commit in writing to a fixed date), and independently confirms the deposit is returned upon upgrade.

Why a failing company is never named
When a company fails our standard, we report that in aggregate — "X of Y companies checked this month passed" — rather than naming the specific company. That's a deliberate policy, not a legal hedge: our failing verdict is our own conclusion against a standard we wrote, and we'd rather be conservative about what we assert publicly about a specific business. Naming a company on the public list is different — each entry is shown with the objective, checkable points that were confirmed and any still open, not an accusation of anything.
There is one planned exception to the failing-side anonymity rule, built the same way it was on our sister site: a separate, explicitly-approved page indexing already-public enforcement actions — an FTC consent order, a state AG judgment, a criminal conviction — under the company's or individual's own name, exactly as the regulator or court already published it. That's reporting a public record, not our own verdict, and it hasn't been built yet either.

Corrections
Update, 4 October 2026: the Record page and list card for the one company still named (Capital One Platinum Secured Credit Card) were re-checked against the evidence behind each point. Wording that said a finding was "confirmed directly on capitalone.com" and "monthly" went beyond what the sources read for that finding supported, the "what remains open" line described what was confirmed rather than the open point, and the page description called the review an independent check. The open item is now stated plainly (its current variable APR, not yet confirmed since the 17 September 2026 Prime Rate change), a dated review note on the Record page says which findings drew on card-review sources and which on Capital One's own pages, and the page description, search entry and newsletter line now read "Review incomplete — 5 of 6 applicable points confirmed, 1 unresolved". No point's status and no listing changed; the original findings remain on the Record page.
Update, 3 October 2026: six companies were temporarily removed from the public list while review of every applicable point is completed. Each had been shown with a verdict line saying every point was passed even though one or more applicable points were still unresolved; that wording has been replaced across the site, and every card now lists the points confirmed and the points still open. Removal is not a finding of wrongdoing and not a fail; the evidence is preserved, and a company is re-listed only after a complete review supports it. The public list now names one company, which is shown as "Review incomplete".
Correction, 24 September 2026: a scheduled reassessment of the seven credit-repair and debt-settlement companies first listed on 13 September 2026 ran fresh research against current sources, followed by an independent adversarial re-check, for each one. Six were reconfirmed and their "Verified as of" dates updated above. One previously-passing company was found to have real, independently-corroborated regulatory and litigation history — including a state consent order and pending federal litigation — that the original assessment did not surface, and it no longer clears our standard. Per our policy of never naming a failing company on this page, that entry has been removed from the passing directory rather than relabeled — it simply no longer appears above.
